Did Jesus take on punishment for sins committed long ago?

Romans 3:25

Have you ever wondered how Abraham’s sins were forgiven even before Jesus was crucified, buried, and risen again?

It’s an intriguing concept, and it’s all tied to the atonement of Christ, which seems to reference both backward and forward in time.

“whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in God’s merciful restraint He let the sins previously committed go unpunished,” (Romans 3:25).

In the book of Romans, it’s written that God displayed publicly a propitiation in His blood through faith. This act demonstrated God’s righteousness and showed how He let the sins committed before that time go unpunished.

The wrath of God and judgment were suspended, which allowed even Noah, who lived before the blood of Christ was shed, to be saved by his faith. This shows us that there was a mighty forbearance and remission of sins for the faithful in the Old Testament.

So, here’s the amazing part — the gospel has always been preached! Even the people who lived before Jesus’ crucifixion were saved just like you and me. They may not have had the full Scripture like we do, but they had enough knowledge to put their trust in a coming Redeemer.

You see, we are all the same blood-born sinners and called out ones, whether we lived back then or we’re living now. The apostle Paul explains that this includes sins from the past, before Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

You know what’s incredible? God didn’t just overlook those old sins; instead, He revealed divine patience and perfectly timed everything.

He accumulated the punishment for those previous sins and then unleashed it all on Jesus, fully satisfying the payment. It’s important to note that even during this whole process, faith remained a crucial requirement.

It’s truly mind-blowing to realize how God’s plan for salvation spans across time, encompassing the faithful from before and after the crucifixion of Christ. This understanding gives us a fresh perspective on the eternal nature of His love and grace, making the message of redemption even more powerful and reassuring.
